Since the home button’s touch ID is paired to the logic board, you cannot change it and expect the button to function as touch ID any more. The initial question had to do with the home button being cracked, not the flex cable. In order to answer the question, you have to take a look at the question the way it was asked. Loss of touch sensitivity or total absence of touchscreen function after a repair is usually caused by a damaged flex cable. There are three major parts in a screen assembly — the LCD, digitizer, and flex cable.
Remove the bracket covering the front panel sensor assembly connector. Disconnect the second lower display cable connector, directly behind the one you disconnected in the previous step. Does anyone know what is the true cost of replacing just an home button/touch ID at a UK Apple Store? Apple over the phone refuses to give me an answer and due to Covid all stores are closed for the foreseeable future.

I experienced the same situation just a few days ago. I've never expected to have this kind of issue with an Apple product. What's more, I've been using Iphone 8 for 3 days and it's still under warranty but nobody here wants to help me. Home button cracked and I don't know what to do...
How do I enable the virtual home button on iPhone 8?
I have been using my iPhone 8 for a little over 6 weeks. Last night I plugged in my phone to charge and walked away for about an hour. When I came back the phone had turned off and I observed a hairline crack running across the home button. The phone was not dropped or even touched during this time. I know that the iPhone 7 had a similar issue but I was not able to find anyone that had experiences a similar issue with the iPhone 8.

Bend the connector cable up slightly to prevent it from accidentally making contact with the socket and providing power to the phone during your repair. What I don't know and Apple over the phone does not seem to "know" is if the screen replacement cost includes a new button. If it's a new screen, fine I don't mind the 130£, but no one seems to be able to confirm. Use an opening pick to gently separate the adhesive holding the home/Touch ID sensor cable to the back side of the display panel.

I figured it was doing an update but it never changed. My phone was in a brand new Lifeproof case, which is not damaged at all. From reading the other comments here, it sounds like this is a manufacturer defect. Will be taking it to the Apple store to see what can be done. I did also notice that the home button was very warm to the touch when it was stuck on the boot screen. This is because the iPhone 7 and later models don't have a physical 'Home' button, it is a non-mechanical one.

Up until now, we have offered our customers premium original equipment parts while most of our competitors use cheaper aftermarket parts. We have still maintained our “low price” position. You can confirm that AssistiveTouch has been enabled, if a dark square with a white circle is visible on your iPhone screen.
Your country or region offers AppleCare+ for this product. If you damage the Touch ID hardware, it can only be replaced by Apple. Apple does not sell home buttons, however they offer a service of installing a new home button and activating it with a given logic board . Since Apple would have made sure it worked if they replaced the battery, we have to assume you did it yourself or had it done by a 3rd party shop.

The alcohol will help to break down any gunk that has built up. What makes you so sure it's nonsense in all your wisdom? Or do you mean nonsense in regards to replacing the whole phone which obviously isn't required. There is one type of home button can fixed that problem now, with the return function. Over the past four years, Bad Apple has strived to earn your business by setting and maintaining a zero-defect policy on our replacement parts.
A torn flex cable or damaged u10 ic or damaged connector on the home button can all be repaired, we do them all the time. Had it on charge, took it off charge and rebooted then notification on screen to service home button then noticed crack on home button. And since the new update, the phone has now frozen! How can THEY prove it was damaged by human error??!!! She is SO careful with her expensive phone and under no circumstance has she damaged it.
Installing a screw in the wrong place can cause permanent damage. Slide an opening pick underneath the display around the top left corner and along the top edge of the phone to loosen the last of the adhesive. Do not raise the display more than 15º or you'll risk straining or tearing the ribbon cables connecting the display.
